January Newsletter 2010

Christmas Caroling & Blessing Baskets:

This year for Christmas we decided to do something we have never done before in Ghana. We went Christmas Caroling. First we collected non perishable items, clothing etc. during the months of November through December. We sorted the items and put together four baskets that we could give out to those who we caroled to. The people we chose to give out our Blessing Baskets to, were those who have some connection with our church whether a family member or those themselves which have visited us. Our goal, was to witness of Christ’s love. The giving and singing was truly a testimony in the community. The recipients of the baskets were very grateful. The Bible says “a man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men” Prov. 18:16. There is a story behind each one. I could write a page just on the caroling. It was a blessing to our people to be able to give and see the rewards of it. “...It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35. The caroling was on Tuesday and on Thursday, Christmas Eve we had our church service. I told the children the Christmas story and my wife with the help of the ladies baked cookies that we had along with other refreshments. We want to thank those who sent us some Christmas money and some Christmas cards. We are grateful for you all and we thank the Lord for your faithfulness to His work!

New Year’s Service:

We did a play called “Stay in the Castle” It is about staying in God’s Will. If you remember, we did this play earlier in April of 2008. After this play we had many testimonies from the church people about their salvation. It was a blessing as they one by one excitingly, stood up and told when and how they got saved. Many new in Christ and yet older ones in Christ with a zeal! We prayed in the New Year, set off some fire crackers and enjoyed the time with our church family.

Goals for 2010:

We are glad to see a new year and excited to see what God will do in and through His work and His people. We have a goal to the purchase some property for the church and we will be in need of your cherished help in raising this amount for the new Church Property when it is finalized. They are in the process of getting the paper work in order. The Property is in the middle of the city of Sekondi not far from where we have services now. We have went through a teachers training class, for the Sunday school teachers last year. They taught a little last year but relied on my wife. My wife has stepped back and is teaching a teen girl during Sunday School. In preparing the ladies, my wife is on Monday evenings doing a Bible study twice a month and has added the other 2 Mondays of the month for visiting our children classes for S.S. and JR. In continuing preparation of the preachers, Prince and Koasi have (since this New Year) been preaching all the services on Sunday while I’ve stepped back to teach a Membership/Baptism Class and continue my week day and night classes and services. It is a joy to see them preaching. They will graduate from Bible School in May. This year they are ALL putting what they’ve learned into practice. As many of you know we are planning to come home for our furlough June or July of 2010. These teachers and preachers will carry on the work for our Lord. It is exciting to see. Amen!
